Honda and Mitsubishi partner to develop new pickup truck

Honda Motor and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-develop a new Honda-branded pickup truck. The vehicle will be based on the Mitsubishi Triton platform and is expected to enter the market in 2028.

This collaboration marks the first vehicle supply agreement between the two manufacturers. The new model aims to fill a gap in Honda’s current lineup in the Asia-Pacific region, where the company does not currently offer a pickup truck. For Mitsubishi, the partnership is expected to increase production volumes and improve capacity utilization at its manufacturing facility in Thailand.

The Mitsubishi Triton is a global strategic model known for its robust chassis. While specific details regarding the Honda model's design and name have not been disclosed, the Triton platform features various engine options, including a 2.4-liter turbodiesel. The partnership follows previous industry discussions regarding cooperation between Japanese automakers.
