Honda and Toyota unveil plans for major updates to N‑WGN and Rumii compact models

Honda is expected to give its lightweight high‑wagon N‑WGN a full model change around 2027. The redesign would keep the vehicle within Japan’s kei‑car dimensions while improving interior space, updating the 658 cc three‑cylinder engine for better efficiency, and adding the latest Honda SENSING safety suite, electronic parking brake and a larger digital cockpit. Prices are likely to rise modestly but remain lower than the rival N‑BOX.

Toyota’s compact tall‑wagon Rumii is set for a substantial mid‑cycle overhaul slated for late 2026, rather than a full generational change. The update will feature a new front‑end design, a possible shift to the e‑SMART HYBRID powertrain and upgraded Toyota Safety Sense features, along with larger displays and parking‑brake assistance. Projected pricing starts in the 1.8‑million‑yen range for gasoline models and around 2.15 million yen for the hybrid version. Both manufacturers aim to sustain the models’ popularity in Japan’s competitive compact‑car segment.
