Honda discusses future of Fit model and manual transmissions
Honda executives have addressed the future of specific vehicle models and transmission types in the North American market. Lance Woelfer, an American Honda sales executive, stated that while there is currently no active program to reintroduce the discontinued Honda Fit to the United States, the company views it as “something we can consider and look at” as they evaluate affordable options.
Currently, Honda is prioritizing the production of the Civic and HR-V models. The company also plans to introduce 15 new hybrid models in North America by March 2030.
Regarding manual transmissions, Honda maintains a commitment to the technology despite a shrinking market share. While production of manual Civic Si and Acura Integra A-Spec models was recently paused, Woelfer noted that there is still an opportunity to serve enthusiasts. Honda intends to continue offering manual options in models such as the Civic Type R and Integra Type S, acknowledging that while demand is decreasing, the “fun to drive” aspect remains a priority for a specific segment of consumers.
