Honda investigates power unit issues affecting Fernando Alonso
Honda has revealed findings from an investigation into the power unit issues experienced by Fernando Alonso during the Singapore Grand Prix. While no major mechanical failure was detected, engineers identified a functional problem related to energy deployment that requires further resolution.
During the race, Alonso reported unpredictable engine response, specifically noting that power was delivered at inappropriate times and failed to manifest on straights. Despite replacing the turbocharger prior to the event, the driver continued to struggle with electrical energy deployment, eventually starting from the pit lane.
Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Alonso stated that Aston Martin has identified the necessary areas for improvement, though he noted that the team cannot publicly disclose all technical details. He emphasized that while the current car package remains behind the leading teams, the focus has shifted from understanding the problems to implementing solutions.
