Honda N-BOX leads Japan's August kei car sales rankings

The Honda N-BOX maintained its position as the top-selling kei car in Japan for the fourth consecutive month, recording 13,917 units in August despite a 6.8% year-on-year decrease. The Suzuki Spacia followed in second place with 11,624 units, while the Daihatsu Tanto took third. Super height wagons continued to dominate the top three rankings.

In the broader vehicle market, Toyota showed strong performance with several models in the top rankings, including the Yaris, Raize, Corolla, Sienta, and Roomy. Conversely, the Daihatsu Move saw a significant decline of 42.4%, dropping to ninth place, partly attributed to production disruptions at the Nakatsu plant following the Kumamoto earthquake.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales saw growth, with total EV sales reaching 9,838 units, representing a 3.9% share of new car sales. Among kei EVs, the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK Cross EV saw slight declines, while the BYD Rakko recorded 81 registrations.
