Honda outlines 2027 engine development roadmap for Aston Martin
Honda has detailed its technical strategy for the 2027 Formula 1 season, focusing on a completely new power unit designed to improve competitiveness for Aston Martin. Chief Engineer Shintaro Orihara revealed a two-stage development plan intended to bridge the gap with top competitors.
The first major evolution is targeted for the start of the 2027 season. However, Honda expects to still trail the leading teams at that stage. A second, more significant technical leap is scheduled for the mid-season, approximately around the eighth race of the year, which coincides with the period around the Monaco Grand Prix.
Engineers are specifically targeting internal combustion as their primary weakness. This focus is driven by upcoming regulatory changes where the internal combustion engine's influence on total power output will increase from 53% to 58%.
