Honda Racing launches docuseries on Gil de Ferran’s speed record
Honda Racing Corporation USA has launched a four-episode docuseries titled ‘241. 428’ to honor the late racing champion Gil de Ferran and his record-setting achievement. The series explores the moment in 2000 when de Ferran set the official world closed-course speed record for a race car, reaching an average speed of 241.428 mph during qualifying for the CART IndyCar Series at the California Speedway in Fontana.
Produced by the HRC Heritage Racing Program, the documentary features interviews with prominent motorsports figures, including Roger Penske, Zak Brown, Rick Mears, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, and Tony Kanaan. The series highlights the technical synergy between the driver, the Penske-modified Reynard chassis, and the 2.65L Honda HR-0 turbocharged V-8 engine.
Kelvin Fu, president of HRC US, described the project as a personal tribute to de Ferran’s legacy within the Honda racing family. The series is currently available on the HRC US YouTube channel.
