Honda to launch rebadged Mitsubishi Triton pickup by 2028
Honda is reportedly planning to launch a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck, with deliveries expected to begin as early as 2028. The move aims to fill a gap in Honda’s current lineup, as its existing Ridgeline model uses a unibody construction that differs from the body-on-frame trucks popular in Southeast Asian markets.
The vehicles would be manufactured at Mitsubishi’s factory in Thailand. This partnership would allow Honda to enter the competitive mid-size pickup segment—competing with models like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger—without the high costs of developing a new platform from scratch. For Mitsubishi, the deal would increase production capacity and factory utilization at its Thai plant.
Reports suggest the collaboration may extend beyond a single vehicle. Honda is reportedly exploring the possibility of sourcing other models from Mitsubishi and investigating joint development for components such as instrument clusters and digital displays.
