Honda reportedly to launch pickup truck based on Mitsubishi Triton

Honda is reportedly planning to launch a new pickup truck based on the Mitsubishi Triton platform. While no official agreement has been confirmed, first deliveries are tentatively planned for 2028, with Southeast Asia expected to be the initial target market.

Using the Mitsubishi Triton's ladder-frame chassis would allow Honda to enter the rugged pickup segment more quickly and cost-effectively than developing a new platform from scratch. This model would differ significantly from the Honda Ridgeline sold in North America, which utilizes a unibody construction focused on comfort rather than heavy-duty utility.

The potential collaboration could also benefit Mitsubishi by increasing production volumes of the Triton, potentially through manufacturing facilities in Thailand. However, due to customs barriers and light truck taxes, the model is unlikely to reach European or American markets.
