Honda signs Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso for 2027 MotoGP season

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) confirmed two major rider signings for the 2027 MotoGP season as the series prepares to adopt an 850 cc engine formula. French rider Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP world champion, will join Honda’s factory team on a two‑year deal covering the 2027 and 2028 championships, ending his eight‑year tenure with Yamaha. The team’s statement read, “Honda Racing Corporation is pleased to announce the signing of Fabio Quartararo for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP World Championship seasons.”

Colombian David Alonso, the 2024 Moto3 world champion and current Moto2 competitor, also signed a multi‑year contract to move up to MotoGP in 2027. Honda did not specify whether he will race for the factory squad or the LCR satellite team. The announcement highlighted his “impressive record in the lightweight categories.” In addition, Honda appointed veteran crew chief Santi Hernández to lead Alonso’s programme, underscoring the manufacturer’s commitment to rebuilding its rider lineup for the new technical era.

Both riders will debut on Honda machinery at the post‑race Valencia test, with their exact team assignments to be confirmed later in the year.
