Honda SL350: A look at the underrated 1970s off-road motorcycle

The Honda SL350 is highlighted as an underrated motorcycle from Honda’s 1970s lineup. Developed as a response to the Yamaha DT-1, the SL350 featured an off-road slant, though its production was somewhat rushed.

Because the model utilized a chassis borrowed from the CB/CL range and retained components like the electric starter and CV carburetors, it faced certain technical challenges. Specifically, the carburetors could cause engine RPM to drop abruptly upon landing after jumps, which posed risks to riders. Despite these issues, the bike was well-received, and its popularity was bolstered by notable figures such as John Wayne, who was pictured riding a new SL350 on a film set in late 1969.
