Honda to release updated Civic Type R in September 2026

Honda is preparing a major minor change for its high-performance Civic Type R (FL5), scheduled for release in September 2026. The update will include styling changes to both the interior and exterior, as well as the introduction of a new “TYPE R HRC” grade.

Key technical improvements focus on aerodynamics and cooling. The redesigned front bumper aims to increase airflow to the radiator and intercooler, while the rear bumper will feature a modified diffuser to enhance high-speed stability. Additionally, the vehicle will transition to full LED lighting, addressing previous criticisms regarding bulb-based rear indicators.

The update also brings advancements in connectivity and paint durability, utilizing high-durability coating technologies seen in other premium Honda models to better protect against stone chips and UV degradation.
