Hondarribia political group calls for calm after fatal shooting
The EAJ-PNV local board in Hondarribia has issued a public appeal for serenity, respect, and coexistence following a period of significant social tension in the coastal town. The political group condemned recent acts of hostility, including graffiti targeting Security Counselor Bingen Zupiria.
The call for calm follows a violent incident earlier in the week where a municipal guard shot and killed Babacar Welle, a 46-year-old resident of Senegalese origin. The incident occurred after Welle allegedly threatened pedestrians with a knife and attempted to attack an Ertzaintza officer. The shooting has led to community protests and demonstrations organized by the Senegalese community, contributing to a heightened atmosphere of social friction. The PNV emphasized that community cohesion must be built on respect and warned against polarizing or hateful rhetoric.
