Honduran Ambassador warns OAS of institutional hijacking

Cossette López Osorio, the Honduran Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), has reaffirmed Honduras's commitment to hemispheric democracy, peace, security, and human rights during her initial interventions at the organization.

López Osorio issued a warning regarding “institutional hijacking,” a phenomenon where formally elected governments may utilize state structures to undermine political pluralism and the separation of powers. She emphasized the need for the Inter-American system to strengthen its tools to protect the rule of law and fundamental liberties against such practices.

Additionally, the Ambassador participated in a forum focused on the Inter-American Model Law to Prevent, Punish, and Eradicate Digital Violence against Women and Girls. The discussions centered on the necessity of strengthening institutional and legal responses to combat digital violence and protect women's rights within the region.
