Honduran Armed Forces discharge 125 members for serious offenses

The Honduran Armed Forces have dishonorably discharged 125 members during the first nine months of 2026. According to Colonel Héctor Fajardo, the separations were due to serious violations of military ethics, honor, discipline, and institutional image.

The discharged personnel include one officer, two non-commissioned officers, and 122 enlisted members. Among those removed is Colonel Juan Carlos Osorto Castillo, the former director of the Támara National Penitentiary Center. Osorto’s discharge follows an administrative investigation into a suspected shortage of more than eight million lempiras within the prison's commissary system.

Fajardo described the actions as a mechanism for institutional self-purification. He noted that disciplinary grounds for such measures include acts of indiscipline and alcohol consumption during missions, even if the conduct occurs during leave or vacations. The military clarified that these are administrative sanctions and do not replace potential criminal proceedings.
