Honduran authorities arrest woman for alleged loan fraud

Police in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, have arrested a 38-year-old merchant in the Santa Cecilia neighborhood for her alleged involvement in a fraudulent loan scheme. The Dirección Policial de Investigaciones (DPI) reported that the suspect used a falsified signature to secure a loan of 205,000 lempiras.

According to investigators, the woman had temporary possession of a Toyota Hilux belonging to a friend. She allegedly used the vehicle as collateral for the loan without the owner's authorization by forging the owner's signature on a vehicle title document.

The arrest follows a warrant issued on October 27, 2026, by the Criminal Court of Letters of the Tegucigalpa Judicial Section. The suspect faces charges of aggravated improper fraud and the use of a false public document. She has been placed at the disposal of the competent court to continue legal proceedings.
