Honduran authorities warn of arrests for officials linked to criminal groups

Christian Nolasco, head of operations for the Anti-Extortion and Terrorist Associations Division (DAET) in Honduras, has warned that police officers, prosecutors, judges, and lawyers could face arrest for alleged collaboration with criminal structures. These investigations are part of ongoing probes into terrorist activities.

Nolasco stated that legal professionals and officials could be detained for facilitating illicit activities, even if they are not direct members of a criminal organization. Under current legislation, the crime of terrorist actions, including collaboration, carries prison sentences ranging from 15 to 20 years.

Authorities are currently analyzing telephone communications, messages, and intelligence data to determine links to gangs such as MS-13 and Barrio 18. Currently, 33 individuals are detained in connection with these investigations.
