Honduran business leaders express optimism regarding IMF review

The Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (Cohep) has expressed confidence following a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical mission regarding the country’s sixth and final economic program review.

Manuel Hernández, a director at Cohep, stated that discussions focused on macroeconomic stability, structural reforms, and the role of private investment in national development. Business leaders emphasized the need to strengthen investment, reduce losses at the state-owned electricity company (ENEE), and improve overall economic growth conditions.

A central topic of the meeting was the reform of the electricity subsector. Cohep noted that the IMF provided a positive assessment of these reforms, which are expected to facilitate new investments and address energy supply issues. The private sector highlighted that lower energy prices and sufficient capacity are essential for industrial productivity and planning.

Other concerns raised during the consultations included fuel costs, the impact of climate change on productive activities, and the challenges faced by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
