Honduran coffee producers seek expansion of agricultural financial relief
Coffee producers in Honduras are requesting that the National Congress expand the benefits of the Agricultural Financial Relief Law (Decree 128-2026). The proposal seeks to explicitly include obligations held with the Fund for the Business Development of Agricultural Professionals of Honduras (Fodepah) and other agricultural funds or trusts managed by the National Agricultural Development Bank (Banadesa).
Producers cited several challenges impacting the sector, including labor shortages, rising input costs, and unfavorable market conditions. They expressed concern regarding mortgage guarantees held by Banadesa and judicial collection processes that could jeopardize their properties and production continuity. The requested reform aims to provide mechanisms for debt readjustment and refinancing to help farmers meet economic commitments without halting agricultural activities.
