Honduran Congress condemns armed attack on Deputy María Fernanda Sandres

Legislators from all political parties in the Honduran National Congress have issued a unanimous condemnation following an armed attack against National Party Deputy María Fernanda Sandres. The incident occurred in the department of Santa Bárbara while Sandres was returning from delivering aid to residents in the village of Laguna Verde, Azacualpa.

According to preliminary reports, Sandres was traveling in a truck when individuals on a motorcycle intercepted the vehicle and opened fire. The deputy sustained a graze to her arm but survived the attempt on her life. She is currently in the process of recovery.

Congress President Tomás Zambrano has called for an immediate and exhaustive investigation by the National Police and the Directorate of Police Investigations (DPI) to identify and capture those responsible. Zambrano emphasized that such violence threatens all parliamentarians and underscored the legislature's commitment to implementing measures against organized crime.
