Honduran Congress passes sweeping reforms to domestic‑violence law

The Honduran National Congress approved a comprehensive amendment to the country’s Law Against Domestic Violence in its final debate. The new measures impose automatic civil and administrative penalties on convicted perpetrators, including a nationwide ban on obtaining or renewing a driver’s licence, a prohibition on purchasing, registering or possessing firearms, and a block on holding any elected or public‑sector job.

Deputy Tania Pinto emphasized the severity of the restrictions, stating that offenders will lose the right to drive, own guns and serve in public office. The reforms will be published in the official gazette, La Gaceta, and are presented as a historic step toward protecting women and strengthening family safety in Honduras.
