Honduran Deputy Johana Bermúdez challenges medical college over alleged surgery irregularities

Deputy Johana Bermúdez of Honduras' National Party responded to accusations from the College of Medical Doctors of Honduras (CMH) that the emergency‑decree surgery program suffered cost and transparency irregularities. She called the claims “unfounded” and urged CMH leaders, including President Samuel Santos, to present any evidence before the Public Ministry. Bermúdez said any allegation involving public funds must be backed by proof and offered to accompany CMH representatives in filing a formal complaint.

The deputy defended the program aimed at reducing surgical backlogs, noting that more than 10,000 Hondurans have already been operated on in public hospitals using allocated funds. She also called for a multisectoral table to address the issue and warned against politicising the debate.
