Honduran Ex-Mayor Adán Fúnez Placed Under House Arrest in Murder Case
A Honduran judge modified the precautionary measures for former Tocoa mayor Adán Fúnez, allowing him to serve his pending criminal case under house arrest instead of preventive detention. The decision cited his advanced age and deteriorating health.
Fúnez is accused of intellectual participation in the September 2024 murder of environmental defender Juan López. Victims' representatives, including lawyer Kimberly Andino, condemned the ruling as “lamentable” and disproportionate to the seriousness of the charges, which also include organized crime. The criminal process will continue with upcoming preliminary hearings and a future public trial.
