Honduras President requests U.S. case-by-case review of TPS cancellations
Honduran President Nasry Asfura has requested that the United States government conduct case-by-case reviews for Honduran citizens affected by the cancellation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The request follows a decision by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to terminate TPS for several countries, including Honduras, which may lead to the deportation of those who do not leave voluntarily.
Asfura emphasized that many beneficiaries have lived in the United States for three or four decades, establishing roots, businesses, and families. He suggested that the government prepare for a potential influx of returning citizens by encouraging them to invest their savings and expertise back into the Honduran economy.
The National Commissioner for Human Rights (Conadeh) warned that approximately 55,000 Hondurans are now at risk of detention, deportation, and the loss of essential rights, such as work permits and medical insurance. Conadeh has advised affected individuals to seek specialized legal counsel to explore alternative immigration statuses, such as those based on family ties.
