Honduran government audits education and health sector payrolls
The Honduran Secretariat of Finance and the Directorate of Civil Service have launched a joint audit of payrolls within the Education and Health sectors. The investigation aims to determine if increases in public employment are justified and if positions correspond to employees actively performing their duties.
The audit follows a complaint filed by the Association for a More Just Society (ASJ) with the Superior Court of Accounts (TSC) regarding irregularities in state payroll growth. Data presented by the ASJ highlighted a discrepancy in the education sector: between 2022 and 2026, student enrollment decreased by 87,134, while teaching positions increased by 4,191 and administrative staff grew by 1,099.
Finance Secretary Emilio Hernández Hércules stated that the Civil Service will verify employee attendance, job performance, and the justification for assigned positions. The review also extends to the Secretariat of Health to investigate recent personnel increases.
