Guatemala and El Salvador to launch integrated border controls

Guatemala and El Salvador will launch a pilot program on October 15, 2026, to implement integrated customs and migratory controls at their shared border. The initiative, approved under the Deep Integration Process, aims to streamline the movement of goods and people through coordinated management at the Pedro de Alvarado-La Hachadura and Metalío border crossings.

In Guatemala, the Public Ministry is undergoing significant restructuring under Attorney General Gabriel Estuardo García Luna. The administration is focusing on administrative and technical modernization, including the elimination of the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Impunity (FECI) to address allegations of political persecution. García Luna reported progress in strengthening criminal and financial analysis to target organized crime structures rather than isolated cases.

Meanwhile, in Argentina, political and judicial developments include a request for information regarding the use of public resources for former Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni, and discussions surrounding potential candidates for the Supreme Court of Justice. In Mexico, the Supreme Court is set to rule on the authority of the Federal Audit Office (ASF) to challenge the dismissal of cases involving the alleged diversion of public funds.
