Honduran migrant killed in Escuintla caravan fight

A Honduran migrant, identified as Reinery Armando Hernández León, died following a fight in Escuintla, Chiapas, while traveling with the “Sueños Sin Fronteras” migrant caravan. The group arrived in the municipality on Monday morning, marking the fourth day of their journey since departing from Tapachula on August 20.

Security sources reported that the victim sustained stab wounds, including one to the neck. Although he was transported to a hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries. Local municipal police intervened in the altercation and detained seven migrants, who were taken to a local jail. The State Attorney General's Office has been notified to conduct a formal investigation.

Members of the caravan have expressed concerns regarding a lack of security at the sports field in Escuintla where they were resting. They reported seeing suspicious individuals loitering near the site and have called for increased police presence at rest areas and along the Chiapas coast. The caravan participants stated they left Tapachula due to long delays in regularization processes and a lack of employment opportunities, aiming to reach central or northern Mexico.
