Honduran police arrest alleged leader of ‘Los Coyotios’ criminal group

Honduran National Police have arrested a 29-year-old woman in the municipality of Cucuyagua, Copán, identified as the alleged leader of the criminal organization known as ‘Los Coyotios’. The arrest was carried out in the La Ceibita residential area following surveillance and monitoring operations.

The suspect is wanted under a judicial order issued by the Court of Letters for National Competence in Matters of Organized Crime, Environment, and Corruption. She faces four alleged offenses: attempted murder, criminal association, illegal possession of a permitted firearm, and drug trafficking.

Authorities state that ‘Los Coyotios’ is linked to activities including contract killings, illegal weapons possession, and the sale and distribution of narcotics across the sectors of San Pedro, Cucuyagua, Corquín, and La Unión. During the operation, police seized a black cellular phone for investigative purposes. Records indicate the woman was previously detained in May 2025 for alleged involvement in the counterfeiting of national currency.
