Honduran producers warn of risks to late-season planting

Agricultural producers in Honduras are warning of significant obstacles to the upcoming late-season planting cycle. José Chacón, executive director of the National Federation of Farmers and Ranchers (Fenag), stated that a lack of financing mechanisms and crop protection, such as parametric insurance, is preventing farmers from committing to new plantings.

Chacón warned that the amount of land dedicated to production may decrease this season. This follows losses in the primary planting cycle caused by drought, which has already impacted basic grain production. The federation is calling for government intervention to provide financial incentives and tools to mitigate climate risks and ensure food security.
