Honduran Public Prosecutor investigates Hospital San Felipe director
The Public Prosecutor's Office (Ministerio Público) has summoned Edwin Javier Cruz, the director of Hospital General San Felipe, to testify regarding the impact of ongoing medical staff assemblies on patient care. These informative assemblies have lasted approximately 46 to 47 days, causing disruptions in public health services.
Authorities are investigating the extent to which these activities have led to the suspension of essential services, including outpatient consultations. While Director Cruz maintains that the hospital remains operational and continues to provide care in critical areas such as oncology and maternity, the investigation seeks to document the specific consequences for patients.
Other facilities, such as Hospital Escuela, have reportedly faced significant disruptions, including the suspension of over 20,000 medical appointments and approximately 3,000 surgeries. The director of Hospital Escuela, Darío Zúniga, is also expected to provide statements as part of the ongoing inquiry into the impact of the staff protests on the national public health system.
