Honduran Supreme Court postpones ruling on ex-army chief Romeo Vásquez's capture order

The plenary of the Honduran Supreme Court (CSJ) was unable to hear the amparo petition filed by the defense of former army chief Romeo Vásquez Velásquez, which sought to overturn the capture order against him. The magistrates ran out of time during an extensive session that also dealt with labor and criminal cases, and the hearing was deferred to a future sitting, likely next week.

With the court’s decision pending, the existing capture warrant remains in force and Vásquez continues to be a fugitive. He faces prosecution for the 2009 political crisis‑related death of Isy Obed Murillo, alongside retired generals Carlos Roberto Puerto and Venancio Cervantes, the latter currently out on bail. Communications director Melvin Duarte confirmed the delay and indicated the case will be revisited in the next plenary session.
