Honduran transport leaders warn of shifting extortion tactics

Transport sector leader Wilmer Cálix has warned that extortion activities are evolving to evade security measures. He noted that criminal structures are adapting by shifting their operations to different cities and developing new methods to bypass police interventions.

Cálix argued that state responses should move beyond isolated arrests toward financial investigations to track the movement of extorted funds. He emphasized the vulnerability of the transport sector due to the high number of routes, drivers, and businesses exposed daily. Additionally, he cautioned that criminal infiltration could exist within security institutions, courts, and political sectors, urging the National Police to investigate and identify those involved in these networks.
