Honduran worker dies in Alcobendas construction accident
José Cardona, a 30-year-old Honduran national from Olanchito, died on Friday, September 25, following a construction accident in Alcobendas, Madrid. The incident occurred around 9:10 a.m. while Cardona was performing excavation work at a villa to prepare a space for a transformer installation.
A structure consisting of concrete blocks and earth collapsed, trapping Cardona under the debris. Seven units of the Madrid Fire Department responded to the scene, working for over 40 minutes to reach him. Although rescuers successfully freed him, medical personnel from SUMMA 112 confirmed he had no vital signs.
Local police in Alcobendas have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and the circumstances surrounding the accident. One relative who was present at the site escaped without injury. Cardona’s family, who described him as an honest and educated individual, is currently seeking guidance regarding the procedures for repatriating his remains to Honduras.
