Honduras and Canada celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations

Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero participated in celebrations marking Canada Day and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Honduras and Canada. During the event, Agüero emphasized Canada as a strategic ally and noted the importance President Nasry Asfura places on strengthening bilateral ties to foster prosperity, security, and inclusion.

The diplomatic agenda includes potential growth in trade, responsible investment, tourism, and technical cooperation. Recent discussions between Agüero and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Toronto covered climate change, renewable energy, technical education, air transport, and circular migration. Honduras has expressed interest in establishing a roadmap for labor mobility for Honduran citizens in Canada.

Canadian Ambassador Ioanna Sahas Martin highlighted a bilateral agenda focused on agro-food, education, energy, clean technologies, infrastructure, and information technology. Canadian cooperation has also supported access to justice and human rights for women, indigenous peoples, and vulnerable populations, while promoting economic empowerment.
