Honduras and Chile negotiate highway toll and concession agreements
The Honduran government is negotiating a $42 million settlement with a road concessionaire to regain control of a section of the Canal Seco. The goal is to manage road maintenance using national funds and prevent the installation of a new toll booth in Lamaní. Aníbal Ehrler, Minister of the Infrastructure and Transport System (SIT), stated that the proposed payment plan would be distributed over three years to regularize contractual obligations stemming from a 2016 agreement.
In Chile, negotiations are entering a final stage regarding the reduction of Tag highway tolls. The Ministry of Public Works is working with Autopista Central, a company controlled by the Spanish group Abertis via Vías Chile. The proposed deal involves a toll reduction of more than 10% in exchange for an extension of the current concession period. Concessionaires are also seeking to address financial issues related to payment delinquency and uncollectible debts.
