Honduras ASJ calls for regulation of content creators to prevent money laundering

The Association for a More Just Society (ASJ) in Honduras has called for modern regulations to monitor the income of digital content creators. Nelson Castañeda, the ASJ's Director of Security and Justice, urged the Public Ministry and the National Banking and Insurance Commission (CNBS) to implement policies to identify and track funds received through digital platforms.

Castañeda warned that the current regulatory framework, which is approximately 20 years old, lacks the tools to monitor digital revenue from platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Twitch. He noted that the absence of controls could allow organized crime and drug trafficking networks to use content creators to launder money. The ASJ emphasized that the goal is not merely tax collection, but ensuring the origin of funds is transparent to protect national financial security.
