Honduras Attorney General seeks more budget to fight crime

Honduran Attorney General Pablo Emilio Reyes Theodore has called for an increased budget for the Ministerio Público to better combat crime, corruption, and organized crime. He noted that the institution currently faces significant limitations regarding personnel, logistics, and technological capabilities.

Reyes Theodore highlighted the heavy workload of prosecutors, stating that each individual manages approximately 2,000 case files. He emphasized that addressing these challenges requires greater financial support from the National Congress to strengthen investigative and criminal prosecution capacities. Additionally, the Attorney General pointed out that no competitive examinations for new positions have been held within the institution for a decade, leaving the agency with approximately 790 prosecutors.
