Delta Teams criminal group faces trial in Honduras

A judicial trial has commenced in Honduras against four members of the criminal organization known as ‘Delta Teams’. The group is accused of operating in the Islas de la Bahía region between 2019 and 2022, engaging in human trafficking, organized crime, and potentially the trafficking of drugs and weapons.

The defendants include U.S. citizens Harold Joseph Green Jr. and William James Murdock, who face charges of human trafficking in the form of sale. They are joined by Gary Lee Johnston and Honduran national Ramón Gustavo Trejo Nájera, who are charged with criminal association.

The proceedings are being held under secrecy by the First Chamber of the Sentencing Tribunal for Organized Crime, Environment, and Corruption to protect ongoing investigations. While the case is linked to the disappearance of Angie Samantha Peña, authorities noted that this specific trial focuses on the criminal responsibility of the accused rather than determining her current whereabouts.

Additionally, former Security Vice Minister Semma Julissa Villanueva has addressed controversies surrounding the case, denying allegations of misconduct and claiming that defamation campaigns are being used to undermine the investigation.
