Honduras' Central District Water Reservoirs Remain Below 50% Capacity

The Unidad Municipal de Agua Potable y Saneamiento (UMAPS) reported on Tuesday that the Los Laureles and La Concepción reservoirs are still operating at less than half of their storage capacity, keeping the Central District of the capital in a high water‑risk category. Los Laureles holds about 40.65% of its capacity with 4.270 billion cubic meters of water, while La Concepción is at 33.05% with 11.966 billion cubic meters. UMAPS classified the situation as high hydric risk, a level defined by storage between 25% and 50% of capacity, and urged residents to use water responsibly while maintaining continuous monitoring of the reservoirs.

The agency emphasized that the low levels could threaten water supply for the population if the trend continues, and it called for collective effort to ensure adequate provisioning throughout the season.
