Honduras meets 11 of 17 IMF structural targets
Honduras has fulfilled 11 of the 17 structural goals established in its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to Roberto Lagos, president of the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH). The successful completion of the sixth review could grant the country access to more than $120 million in concessional funds to support the national budget and facilitate negotiations for a new economic program.
Key challenges remaining include six outstanding commitments and the financial stability of the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE). While debt to electricity generators with maturities under 45 days has decreased from approximately 15,000 million to 7,400 million lempiras, electrical subsector reform remains a critical requirement for the IMF.
In addition to economic reviews, an IMF mission met with the President of the Judiciary, Wagner Vallecillo, to discuss judicial challenges such as digitalization and reducing case backlogs. The IMF expressed interest in supporting justice-related matters in the country.
