Honduras completes UN review on racial discrimination

Honduras has concluded its review before the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD). A delegation representing the three branches of the state participated in the process to present progress and address ongoing challenges regarding the rights of indigenous and Afro-Honduran communities.

Key topics discussed included political participation, gender equality, the use of force, and the protection of human rights defenders. The delegation also addressed land titling, extractive projects, and access to basic services such as health, education, water, and sanitation.

Regarding forced displacement, officials noted that Honduras has implemented a Forced Displacement Law and is working toward a National Policy on the matter. The Human Rights Minister, Leda García Pagán, emphasized the successful coordination between government institutions and the country's commitment to addressing the committee's recommendations.
