Honduras expands ALERTA-HN emergency alert testing to iPhone

Honduran authorities have successfully completed the Android phase of testing for ALERTA-HN, a multi-hazard emergency alert system. The system is designed to send rapid warnings and preventive instructions directly to citizens' mobile devices to mitigate risks from natural disasters.

Following a massive pilot test on September 24, which triggered alarm sounds and notifications on many devices across the country, the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), the National Emergency 911 System, and the Secretariat of Risk Management and National Contingencies (Copeco) announced that the next stage will focus on iOS devices, specifically iPhones.

Officials stated that these upcoming tests are necessary to calibrate transmission systems, adjust operational aspects, and ensure the effectiveness of notifications on the Apple platform before the system's official launch. Citizens are advised that they may continue to receive test sounds and messages during this calibration period.
