Honduras deputy proposes national Amber Alert system for missing minors

Honduran Deputy Scherly Arriaga of the Libre Party has proposed a decree to establish a national early warning system for missing children and adolescents. The initiative aims to implement a mechanism similar to the international Amber Alert, which would allow for the immediate and coordinated mass dissemination of information through the National Police and the Public Ministry.

The proposal follows reports from the National Commissioner for Human Rights (Conadeh) regarding a rising trend in disappearances. Data from the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI) indicates that between 2022 and August 2025, 729 minors under the age of 17 were reported missing in Honduras. Specifically, 127 children were reported missing between January and August 2025 alone.
