Honduras Deputy proposes tax exemptions for electric and hybrid vehicles

Honduran Deputy Yury Sabas has presented a legislative proposal to the National Congress to grant a 10-year tax exemption on the importation of electric and hybrid vehicles. The initiative aims to reduce the country's dependence on petroleum-based fuels, lower environmental pollution, and modernize the national vehicle fleet.

The proposal includes a total tax exemption of 0 percent for a decade, covering the Import Tariff (DAI), Selective Consumption Tax, Sales Tax, and any other applicable import fees. To make these technologies more accessible, the decree would apply to both new vehicles and used models, provided the used vehicles are no more than five years old.

Additionally, the project suggests that the annual vehicle registration fee for electric and hybrid cars should be reduced to 50 percent of the rate applied to traditional combustion vehicles. Sabas argued that the measure is necessary due to the volatility of oil prices and the non-renewable nature of fossil fuels.
