Honduras government plans L5,000 million infrastructure investment
The Honduran government is planning an investment of between 4,000 and 5,000 million lempiras to develop major infrastructure projects in San Pedro Sula and the Sula Valley. The initiative, coordinated by the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Transport (SIT) and municipal authorities, aims to improve road connectivity and mobility in the industrial region.
Key planned works include the construction of the El Baron bridge on the old exit to La Lima, one of the twin bridges in Las Brisas, and a cloverleaf or underpass in front of the National Institute of Vocational Training (Infop) on Boulevard 33. Other projects involve extending Avenue Junior over the Bermejo River, paving sections of the riverbank, and creating a road connection between El Zapotal and Jaraguá.
Road expansions are also scheduled, such as widening the highway between Cofradia and Chamelecon to three lanes and preparing a tender to expand the Cofradia to Naco stretch to four lanes. While some projects like the El Baron bridge are moving toward the bidding phase, others still require final designs and cost assessments. Some works may not begin until 2027, depending on technical and administrative progress.
