Honduras health officials warn of measles and pertussis rise

Honduran health authorities have issued a warning regarding the increased risk of respiratory disease transmission during large gatherings. Odalys García, head of the Expanded Program on Immunization (PAI), noted that diseases such as measles and pertussis are airborne, making crowded spaces high-risk environments.

Currently, Honduras has reported 14 cases of measles and 258 positive cases of pertussis. The latter has resulted in 22 deaths. Health officials are urging the population to practice responsible tourism, maintain frequent handwashing, and ensure all family members are up to date with the national vaccination schedule, which provides 24 vaccines against 27 different diseases. Officials also expressed concern regarding vaccine resistance in certain sectors of the population.
