Honduras introduces new industrial policy to boost competitiveness
Honduras has introduced a Base Document for Industrial Policy, a proposal aimed at transforming the national productive model through increased innovation, technology, investment, and job creation. Developed by the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE), the initiative seeks to improve industrial competitiveness across five strategic areas: increasing value added, diversifying production, improving access to productive financing, strengthening production chains, and transforming the energy matrix for greater efficiency and sustainability.
The manufacturing sector currently accounts for approximately 17% of Honduras's gross domestic product (GDP). To support the next stages of this initiative, the European Union has announced additional funding of 6,615,000 lempiras to assist in the definitive design and elaboration of the final policy.
