Honduras investigates explosive threats against Puerto Cortés

Honduran authorities are investigating threats involving explosive devices targeting bridges and port facilities in Puerto Cortés. The investigation was launched following an alert from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to the Honduran Secretariat of Security, the alerts involved messages from an individual expressing intent to use explosives to damage strategic infrastructure. The information also suggested the suspect might have links to a transnational criminal organization, though authorities have not publicly released the individual's identity or specific evidence regarding these ties.

The National Police, through the Police Directorate of Investigations (DPI) and its Interpol office, coordinated with the Public Ministry to identify and require the presence of the suspect in the northern region of the country. Authorities are conducting proceedings to determine criminal responsibility and the full scope of the threats. Puerto Cortés serves as a critical hub for Honduras' foreign trade and logistics.
