Honduras launches spectrum auction to expand mobile and internet coverage
The National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) has announced the opening of a public multi-band national contest to assign radio spectrum frequencies in Honduras. This marks the first such process in 13 years.
The auction involves the 700 MHz band, which is technically suited for extending mobile signals to remote rural areas, and the 1700/2100 MHz bands, intended to increase network capacity and data transmission for growing service demands. The initiative aims to improve connectivity for students, workers, and entrepreneurs in underserved regions.
Interested companies can register and purchase the contest bases at CONATEL facilities in Comayagüela from October 19 to October 23, 2026. The cost for the contest documentation is set at US$ 1,500.
