Honduras prepares essential services for Semana Morazánica holiday
Honduras is preparing for the Semana Morazánica holiday period, scheduled from October 5 to October 9, 2026. While many public administration employees will observe the break, essential services will remain active to ensure public safety and health.
Security, emergency, and health institutions, including the National Police, Fire Department, COPECO, the Red Cross, and the 911 Emergency System, will maintain operations. Hospitals will continue providing emergency care, though some outpatient appointments at the Hospital Escuela have been rescheduled. The National Migration Institute will also provide 24-hour passport services at major international airports.
The Asociación de Transportistas Interurbanos de Honduras (ATIH) has clarified that its members will continue operating normally during the holiday, denying support for a national strike announced by another sector group. The ATIH is currently seeking solutions through a technical table with the Instituto Hondureño de Transporte Terrestre (IHTT).
In the healthcare sector, the Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social (IHSS) announced that most administrative and health staff will take the holiday, leaving only essential emergency services and hemodialysis units operational. This follows a period of 26 consecutive days of informative assemblies by medical personnel.
